United States International University Africa, also known as USIU Africa was established in 1969 as the Nairobi Campus of United States International University (USIU), a San Diego -based institution.
In 1999, the United States International University, Nairobi Campus, established itself as a separate university under its new name, USIU Africa.
In 2001, USIU merged with the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) to form Alliant International University
Over 130 nationalities are represented among the student population undertaking 24 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs at USIU Africa.
The university has an alumni population in excess of 140,000.
Culinary courses
1. Business and Dining Etiquette
This program addresses communication styles, networking, dining etiquette, meeting etiquette, tipping etiquette, travel etiquette, email etiquette, voicemail etiquette, business cocktail party etiquette, and wardrobe etiquette among others.
The course fits executives and any other person who would like to grasp the basics and importance of professional etiquette.
The program duration is two days.
2. Culinary Techniques
This unit is designed with intention to provide the learners with basic culinary skills and knowledge and ability to be effectively involved in all aspects of food and beverage production.
This is by employing both mental and physical abilities in conjunction with the available resources so as to achieve the desired goals.
The program takes one month and it costs Ksh 61,000.
3. Pastry and Confectionery
This course provides students with competence to prepare bakery and pastry products at the level of international pastry chefs.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to prepare different types of cakes, ice dummy cakes with butter cream and ice different types of cakes.
Students will also be able to center pieces and carnation flower.
The program takes a month and it costs Ksh 51,000.
4. Restaurant Techniques
The course provides students with practical skills to serve and sell various types of food and beverages.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to prepare restaurant mis-en-place and serve food and beverages using various styles.
They will also be able to make and serve coffee prepare, present and sell various cocktails as well as making interventions and decisions in the management of food and beverage service
The course takes on month and costs Ksh 36,000.
Entrepreneurship courses
1. USIU-Africa Women Economic Empowerment Program
The course aims to empower women entrepreneurs by giving them Experiential Entrepreneurial Education that connects them to the available opportunities in the Kenyan Market.
The program covers important dimensions in developing and managing a successful business and includes; building business enterprises, environment and business alignment, implementing effective business processes, managing business productivity and creating powerful networks.
The Program was launched during a stakeholder forum on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at USIU-Africa.
The class will have two cohorts per year;
Monday, January 30, 2023 to Friday, April 28, 2023 (one week per month for 4 weeks).
Monday, June 26, 2023 to Friday, September 29, 2023 (one week per month for 4 weeks).
Participants will be issued with certificates of completion that will be useful in linking them to available opportunities.
The course costs Ksh 75,000.
2. LaunchPad: Global Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program
Launchpad Masterclass is designed to incubate ideas through an Outcome-Driven Innovation strategy and process by inspiring confidence, fueling growth ambitions and seizing new opportunities by establishing high-growth enterprises.
As a participant in this program, you will become an astute entrepreneur cum business models innovator.
This is a one-year evidence-based program.
Executive courses
1. Executive Course in Leadership and Governance
The purpose of the course is to equip senior managers, boards and directors with skills and knowledge in providing strategic leadership and ethical management of organization resources whilst being aware of legal obligations and best practice.
The target groups include senior managers, boards, directors, councils, trustees, members of parliament including senators, Members of County Assemblies, CECs, Chief Managers, policy makers, academicians, regulators, administrators, among other leaders.
This course is offered every second week of February, April, June, August and October, Monday to Friday (9.00am-4.00pm) from USIU-Africa, Nairobi.
The program costs Ksh 175,000.
2. Executive Course in Project Management and Implementation
This executive course helps learners develop topical skills in project management prerequisite in today’s dynamic and technological world.
The program exposes learners to in-depth knowledge in the four major phases of project management which include; Initiation, Planning, Execution and Closure.
It further explores the program implementation framework and draws relevant links between the two.
It costs Ksh 175,000.
3. Executive Diploma in Industrial Relations
The diploma program is aimed at those seeking a specialized qualification in Industrial Relations.
It focuses on theory, law and the practical application of the primary knowledge and skills is required for those who work in industrial relations, human resources management and related areas.
The program’s primary objective is to enable managers/professionals to make a more effective contribution to their organization, by increasing their understanding and skills in effective industrial relations management.
Classes take place at USIU-Africa Fridays (6.00pm – 9.00pm) and Saturdays (9.00am – 6.00pm) for six weeks.
Language courses
1. Accelerated Kenya Sign Language
The course aims at providing an enabling environment by teaching Kenya Sign Language (KSL) knowledge and communication skill proficiencies in production and reception so as to empower hearing people to be able to interact and communicate with deaf Kenyans.
The course is open for any hearing person interested in learning KSL, parents with children who are deaf, teachers in schools for the deaf, social workers and people working in NGOs.
People who work in the police force, people who work in the judiciary or anyone in a place that offers services to the public so that they can be able to serve people who are deaf using their language can also take the course.
The program takes 5 weeks and costs Ksh 35,000.
2. English Language Intensive course
The course offers tuition in the 4 language skills; listening and speaking, reading, writing and grammar at 3 levels; beginner, intermediate and advanced.
It is open for anyone seeking to improve their writing skills for academic success, develop all aspects of their English abilities: speaking, listening, writing, reading, and vocabulary.
Anyone planning to enroll at USIU-Africa and wishes to prepare for the Placement Exam and ging on with studies and is seeking to improve their confidence, fluency, and grammatical accuracy can also participate.
It takes three months at a cost of Ksh 35,000.
At the end of the English Language Intensive Course, students are awarded a certificate of completion from United States International University-Africa.
3. Swahili Certificate
Many people lack basic skills in the Swahili language in spite of its important role as a medium of communication in Eastern Africa.
Currently, Swahili has over 100 millions of speakers (on different levels), which turns it into the largest language in sub-Saharan Africa, it is also the working language of the African Union.
The course takes 6 months, and costs Ksh 35,000.

1. Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
Studying ACCA will provide you with skills and knowledge relevant to any business and make you desirable to employers and with ACCA you can work wherever you want to in Kenya; whether in the public or private sector.
An ACCA qualification enhances your employability and uniquely positions you for the job market as it offers a broad, relevant and complete skillset for accountants and finance professionals.
ACCA accountants have a complete skillset to strengthen the finance functions they work in and deliver enhanced value.
Requirements include a degree from a recognized university or a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education KCSE mean grade C+, with a C in both Mathematics & English.
IGCSE-A LEVEL who attain A-C with at least two principle passes or ICPAK/ CPA finalist.
They also have a diploma option which requires grade C- in KCSE or IGCSE-O LEVEL certificate or IGCSE –A LEVEL and do not attain A-C with at least two principle passes are eligible to enroll for ACCA diploma.
Upon completion of the ACCA diploma, a candidate will be eligible to enroll for the ACCA associateship program as well as a USIU-Africa degree program.
2. Applied Behavior Analysis
Training Program is offered by the University of Nevada, Reno’s Satellite Programs in Behavior Analysis in conjunction with USIU.
This program is designed to teach students how to use the basics of behavior analysis to work with children and adults with developmental disabilities.
This training course will prepare participants for a well paying career changing the lives of children and families in Kenya.
This is the first of its kind to be offered in Africa, and the long term goal to create a self-sustained training program for providing evidence-based treatment to individuals on the autism spectrum in Kenya.
The 40-hour online course will start on March 6, 2023 and end on July 16, 2023, while in-person intensive instruction and hands-on practice will follow immediately after from August 7-17, 2023.
The cost of this course is Ksh 114,372
3. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) course
The short course is important for assessing the performance of development programs.
The course will equip participants with knowledge and skills to develop practical, efficient M&E systems and tools, and to bridge the gap between theory and practice that inform planning and policy making.
The training will be conducted at the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced phases;
Beginner Training (Starts on Saturday, January 21, 2023 for 3 Saturdays).
Intermediate Training (Starts on Saturday, February 25, 2023 for 5 Saturdays).
Advanced Training (Starts on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 for 8 Saturdays).
The course fees are Ksh 35,000 for the beginner phase, Ksh 45,000 for intermediate phase and Ksh 150,000 for the advanced phase.
4. Social and Behaviour Change
This program has three distinct courses that will be offered.
(a). Executive Social and Behaviour Change programme
This programme is designed for senior professionals and executives working across different sectors interested in steering transformative social and behaviour change programmes in their work.
It is designed for those seeking to influence their programmes with current evidence-based SBC approaches, models and strategies.
It inspires SBC leadership to design, implement and measure innovative and scalable programmes.
It costs Ksh 72,000.
(b). Social and Behaviour Change Training and Certification Programme for Practitioners
This programme is designed for professionals who want to be competent in planning, designing, implementation, monitoring and evaluating effective SBC programmes.
It introduces innovative and evidence-based SBC approaches applicable across different sectors.
Participants of the program are also expected to work on a project after the course for certification.
It costs Ksh 62,000.
(c). Social and Behaviour Change Training Programme for Emerging Professionals
This programme aims to enhance the skills and capacity of emerging SBC professionals, to enable them to link theory to practice, adequately prepare them for entry to the SBC sector and enhance their employability.
It also intends to train and nurture future SBC professionals whilst providing networking, mentoring, and role modelling best practices.
It will cost Ksh 42,000.
5. Vaccines Management and Immunization
USIU School of Pharmacy & Health Sciences in conjunction with the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) is pleased to introduce a short course in Vaccines Management and Immunization course.
The course is designed to meet the emerging health system needs of a dynamic multiskilled health workforce.
The 30-hour course will be delivered over 1 month and it costs Ksh 25,000.
