The school was started in 2014 by Audrey Cheng, a Taiwanese-American entrepreneur, who before establishing Moringa School was an investor in technology companies across Africa.

Courses offered at Moringa School
1. Moringa Prep
This program entails software development and data science skills that only takes five weeks of full-time learning and ten weeks for learners who are learning on part-time basis.
It is essential for beginners and entails essential concepts in computer science.
While undertaking the program, students learn about JavaScript, GIT and HTML/CSS as they prepare for the core program.Â
2. Moringa Core
This program takes 15 weeks and includes five months of intensive learning.
In this program, students learn about the web as well as mobile developments. Additionally, the learner goes through progressive computing lessons, which also entails cybersecurity.
All these come in four weeks project periods which also includes professional development.
Moreover, students inclusively stand a chance in primary registration scholarships at the School.
3. Data Science
This exquisitely combines the application of algorithms to open up important information that is essential in making important decisions.
It uses concepts, techniques, and theories that are from the fields of mathematics, information science, statistics, and computer science. In total, it takes 18-months to complete.
This program costs Ksh 200,500; Ksh 40,500 (prep fee) and Kshs 160,000 (core fees.)
4. Software Development
At Moringa School, students are taught how to research, design, and write codes using various computer programming languages.
In turn, they can come up with programs or apps that are used for home or business use.
This process is known as the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). It takes up to a total of 15 months to complete.

5. Software Engineering Online
Moringa School teamed up with America’s Top Tech Bootcamp – Flatiron School, to offer this 20-week Software Engineering course.
The course is ideal for students who want to;

- Build and style interactive websites & mobile applications
6. Data Visualization with Python
Students that enroll in this course are not expected to have any prior experience in coding.
By the end of this course, learners will have a solid foundational understanding of Python programming and practical experience working with the most popular data science libraries such as Pandas and Matplotlib.
The learners will also be able to import, explore, clean, manipulate, and visualize datasets in order to identify trends and insights from large data sets.
Requirements for this course are;
- Have basic math skills.
- Have basic computer skills.
- Proficiency in English – both spoken and written.
- Must have a computer or laptop with the following specs ( core i5 – i7, 8GB RAM, 500GB memory).
- Must have a desire and curiosity to learn.
7. DevOps Engineering
This course will prepare learners for a career in DevOps, one of the fastest-growing fields in tech.
For 8 weeks, students will learn the principles of DevOps, Cloud Computing, continuous development and deployment, automation of configuration management, inter-team collaboration, and IT service agility using popular DevOps tools such as Git, Docker and Jenkins.
They will also be provided with hands-on examples of CI/CD tools to ensure that you interlink the business mindset and technology to improve efficiency in your Engineering teams.

8. Product Design (UX/UI)Â
This program prepares students to become an end-to-end Product Designer by learning UX and UI design.
Students will learn to build the functionality and use cases of digital products such as mobile apps, websites, or software.
UX Design is one of ten in-demand tech skills, according to LinkedIn, making this a worthy field for any creative looking for their next career move.
The program gives students a strong foundation in Product Designer skills by focusing on design thinking, user-centered design and foundational visual design.

Moringa School admission requirements
The school offers an avenue for anyone that meets the set requirements.
It takes in all who are passionate about learning.
This ranges from programmers who are beginners, junior software engineers, and also learners who are in managerial level who are ready to add knowledge.
The following are the requirements for Moringa School;
- A laptop
- Fulltime basis for learners in the core program
- Under the prep program, learners are can go with a five-week full-time option or a ten-week part-time option
Moringa School access scholarship
The Access Program is a scholarship program for youth from low-income backgrounds.
Access Program participants benefit from additional activities and support.
This is to afford them equal opportunity for completing the program and graduating with the same confidence and success probability as their self-sponsored counterparts.
These support structures include:
- A pre-introductory course exclusively for access students to help reinforce beginner concepts and fundamentals
- Laptops – Access students who do not already have them are provided laptops to use during the program.
- A professional counselor to offer psychosocial support to any students who are interested in receiving it.
- Fun events – Before Covid-19, we held in-person game nights and karaoke nights. Due to Covid-19, we currently hold online fun events for our students.
- A mentorship program where Access alumni provide guidance and support for students in upper classes.
- A student support team to offer individual support and consistently ensure student well-being.
Students activities
Student activities include;
(a) Lightning talks
Every Tuesday from 5.30 – 6.00 pm, the students will attend lightning talks which are student-led and touch on any informative topics aimed at motivating students and teaching them something outside what they learn in class.
(b) Thursday speaker
Every Thursday from 5.00 – 6.00 pm, the students will attend a talk led by a speaker from the industry to motivate, share experiences, and/or demo a project/product that the students can learn to use, within or outside Moringa School.
