Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed claims of a falling-out with President William Ruto, following weeks of public absence that fueled speculation of discord between the two leaders.

Kindiki, who had been notably missing from key public engagements, reappeared on Saturday, January 4, during the wedding of Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano’s son in Tigoni, Kiambu County.

Addressing the rumors, he clarified that his absence was due to a personal holiday and not indicative of any tensions with the President.

“I am left with only a few hours as my holiday is coming to an end. Therefore, I need to enjoy whatever is left. Ignore everything else completely,” Kindiki said, brushing off allegations of division.

The Deputy President urged Kenyans to avoid being distracted by baseless rumors and instead focus on supporting the government’s development agenda.

He expressed renewed energy and commitment after his break, pledging unwavering support to President Ruto in steering the country forward.

“Don’t fall into the trap of triviality. We have serious business to attend to. I’m grateful the President allowed me a few days off,” he added. “This year, we will all rally behind the President to take Kenya to the next level.”

Kindiki’s absence from the funeral of the late Moses Wetangula’s mother on Friday had raised eyebrows, particularly because he had been a constant presence alongside the President since assuming office in November.

This is not the first time a Deputy President’s absence has sparked debate.

In May 2022, similar rumors emerged when then-Deputy President William Ruto unveiled Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate in Karen, with some leaders notably absent.

The Tigoni event was attended by several high-profile officials, including Cabinet Secretaries Soipan Tuya (Defense), Kipchumba Murkomen (Interior), Eric Mugaa (Water), Attorney General Dorcas Odwour, and Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku, among others.

Kindiki served as the chief guest at the ceremony, marking his public return.
