Prime Cabinet Secretary (CS) Musalia Mudavadi has hit back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his continuous criticism of the government.
Speaking at a roadside rally in Kakamega County on Monday, Mudavadi urged Gachagua to dial down his attacks on the state and instead concentrate on advancing his personal professional pursuits.
Mudavadi emphasized the importance of unity and progress, urging Kenyans to support Kenya Kwanza’s development agenda and avoid endorsing divisive political rhetoric from individuals who lack a realistic chance of holding elected office.
“If somebody was mourning then he has finished the mourning. The mourning period is over. Kenya must move on, it is not there to listen to you every other day. We must develop the country and that is where President Ruto is taking us,” Mudavadi stated.
He also referenced the legal framework surrounding public office, pointing out that once someone is impeached, they are barred from holding any public office, even as a village elder.
“The law says that if you have been impeached you cannot have public office even a nyumba kumi (village elder),” Mudavadi noted.
As the Foreign Affairs CS, Mudavadi urged the public to be vigilant and discerning about the law, advising them to use it as a guide in making political decisions.
“Analyse the law because we do not want to be deceived by someone who cannot hold public office. Let us not waste our time, let us move forward,” he said.
Mudavadi cited examples of former leaders who were impeached and subsequently disqualified from holding office, including former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and ex-Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
Since his ousting in October 2024, Gachagua has waged a fierce campaign against his former boss, President Ruto, and his administration.
He has also encouraged his supporters, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region, to remain steadfast in their opposition and withhold electoral support in the 2027 General Election.
