A senior Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official was killed, and her son left severely injured during a robbery at their home in Mombasa.

According to a police report, two suspects broke into the home of Aisha Akinyi Abubakar early Sunday morning, armed with a crowbar and a knife.

“They gained access to the house by cutting the grills of the kitchen window while armed with crowbar and knife,” the report stated.

The attackers assaulted Aisha, inflicting a fatal cut on her head above her right eye. Her 18-year-old son, Khasim Hassan, was also attacked, sustaining head injuries.

The robbers stole several items, including Aisha’s Samsung A15 mobile phone, a 65-inch Samsung TV, a sound system, an iPad, and a Samsung A21 phone, before fleeing.

Despite his injuries, Khasim managed to drive his mother to Premier Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
