Matthew Hoffman is an American convicted murderer known for committing a series of heinous crimes in November 2010.
He killed three people, Tina Herrmann, her son Kody Maynard, and her friend Stephanie Sprang, in addition to kidnapping and raping Sarah Maynard, Herrmann’s 13-year-old daughter.
The crimes took place in Howard, Ohio, United States.
Hoffman was convicted of aggravated murder (three counts) and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.
While incarcerated, he wrote a ten-page confession letter where he admitted to the murders and abduction, as well as revealing the location of the three bodies.

Hoffman is an American convicted murderer known for committing three murders and kidnapping and raping a young girl named Sarah Maynard.
The murders
On November 10, 2010, Hoffman broke into the home of the Hermann family in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
He had been camping in the woods the night before and was about to burglarize the house when Sarah Hermann and her friend Stephanie Sprang unexpectedly entered the residence.
Hoffman attacked them immediately; he stabbed Kody Hermann, an 11-year-old boy, in the back of the head, killing him instantly.
He then stabbed Kody multiple times after he was already dead. Hoffman chased Sarah, a 13-year-old girl, up to her room and tied her up with a cord from a fan.
The kidnapping
Hoffman kidnapped Sarah and kept her captive in a crawlspace for approximately three days. The room was covered in leaves, dark, cold and wet.
During this time, he repeatedly raped Sarah.
