The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) is a national examination taken by students who have completed their four-year secondary education in Kenya.
It is administered by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), a government agency responsible for setting and marking national examinations in Kenya.
The KCSE examination is usually taken in November each year, and the results are usually released in December.
The examination tests students’ knowledge and skills in eight subject areas, which include:
- English Language
- Kiswahili Language
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Physics
- Chemistry
- History and Government
- Geography
In addition to the eight compulsory subjects, students are required to take at least one optional subject from a list of over 30 subjects offered by the KNEC.
These optional subjects include foreign languages, music, art and design, computer studies, and agriculture, among others.
