Soipan Tuya is the current Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Environment and Forestry and the former Woman Representative for Narok County.
She is the daughter of former Narok South Member of Parliament (MP), Samson Ole Tuya.
Education
According to an article on Who Owns Kenya, Tuya attended Ololulunga Peimary School which is located within Narok County.
The school where she sat for her Kenya Certificate of Primary School Education (KCPE) and emerged top girl in the Narok district was established by the World Bank to support pastoralist communities.
Tuya proceeded to Moi Girls High School, where she studied for two years and transferred to Kenya High School in Nairobi due to health-related reasons.
She sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE) exams in 1998.
Tuya later joined the University of Nairobi (UoN) where she graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree in 2002.
She proceeded to the Kenya School of Law for her diploma, and was admitted to the bar as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 2004.
In 2009, Tuya secured a scholarship to pursue a Master’s in Law in Sustainable International Development at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA.
Before joining politics, she worked in different capacities for various government and civil society organisations.
Tuya worked at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Kituo cha Sheria and the former Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and as a United Nations Volunteer Specialist.
Who is Soipan Tuya’s husband?
According to a report of People Daily dated September 28, 2022, Tuya is married to former Narok County Assembly Majority Leader Stephen Ole Kudate.
According to the court documents, the two lived together from December 2 2013, and were in a relationship up until December 2020.
Soipan Tuya sues husband
According to The Star, the CS has taken her estranged husband to court seeking custody of their two children and Ksh 425,000 for their upkeep.
Tuya claims her estranged husband treats their children and her domestic workers with cruelty.
In her court papers filed at the Nairobi Children’s Court, she claims they have been psychologically, emotionally and verbally abused by the estranged spouse.
As such, Tuya wants full custody of the minors.
She is seeking an order compelling the husband to pay Ksh 225,000 being 50 per cent of the children’s Ksh 450,000 school fees.
Tuya is also seeking an order to compel her estranged husband to pay Ksh 100,000 which is 50 per cent of the Ksh 200,000 children’s monthly entertainment needs.
She further wants the estranged husband to be compelled to pay Ksh 100,000 which is 50 per cent of KSh 200,000 for the two children’s maintenance.
Tuya wants the court to issue an order to have the matter certified as ready for hearing owing to the inordinate delay by her estranged lover in entering an appearance or filing his response.
How much is Soipan Tuya worth?
While appearing before the parliamentary vetting committee, Tuya claimed that she is worth Ksh 156 million.
