Ron Cephas Jones was an American actor who was born on January 8, 1957, in Paterson, New Jersey.
He attended John F. Kennedy High School and graduated from Ramapo College, where he changed his major to theater after getting the lead in a production of Cinderella Ever After his sophomore year.
Jones was a frequent collaborator with LAByrinth Theater Company and had extensive theatrical credits on/off Broadway and around the country.
He was best known for his role as William Hill in the drama series This Is Us (2016–2022), which earned him four consecutive Primetime Emmy Award nominations, winning twice for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2018 and 2020.
Jones also appeared in the Hulu teen drama series Looking for Alaska and the Apple TV+ crime drama series Truth Be Told, opposite Octavia Spencer, Lizzy Caplan and Aaron Paul.
He was drawn to the layers present in writing, which is what he said drew him to This Is Us.
Jones choked up when Deja (Lyric Ross) tells Randall, her adoptive father, she wanted to name her baby William, a nod to his biological father.
Even though Deja had never met William, he felt that William was “woven into the consciousness” of everybody’s story in the series, and that all the characters’ stories interconnect similarly.
