Sands was born in 1958, in West Yorkshire as one of five children. He grew up in England before moving to the US to pursue a career in Hollywood.
NBC noticed the British star after his role in the 1984 series The Sun Also Rises and the 1983 film A Married Man, where he starred alongside Anthony Hopkins.

According to San Bernardino County sheriff’s department in south California, identification should be concluded by next week.
On Friday, June 23, 2023, his family released its first statement since Sands’ disappearance.
