Lindsay Clancy is a 32-year-old woman who has been charged with three counts each of murder and strangulation of her three children in their Duxbury home.
The children were 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan Clancy.
She was indicted by a grand jury on these charges and is currently hospitalized following a suicide attempt.
Clancy’s defense attorney claims that an overmedication of prescription psychiatric drugs led to homicidal and suicidal ideation.
During her arraignment, her lawyer described her as a devoted mother whose mental health had been worsening in the months following the birth of her youngest child.
However, prosecutors have argued that Clancy carefully planned a lethal attack on her children.
Clancy had been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and had written a note in her phone the day before the killings that said she had a ‘touch of postpartum anxiety around returning to work’.
She had been an employee at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Clancy’s husband told police that she had been ‘smiling’ and ‘happy’ earlier in the day of the killings.
Clancy’s case has received significant media attention, with letters submitted to her lawyer and in court painting a different picture of her than the one shared by prosecutors.
Her friends have described her as a valuable resource on motherhood and parenting.
However, the tragic events of January 24, 2023, have caused heartbreak for many in the MassGeneral Brigham family.
Lindsay Clancy husband
Clancy’s husband is Patrick Clancy.
He has spoken out about his wife’s actions and has asked for forgiveness for her.
Patrick has described Lindsay as ‘generously loving and caring towards everyone’, further sharing memories of their children and expressed his grief over their loss.
In a statement, Patrick has asked people to find it within themselves to forgive Lindsay, as he has.
He has also described Lindsay’s actions as “heinous”.
Patrick has been interviewed by police and has provided information about Lindsay’s behavior leading up to the incident.
He has stated that Lindsay was having “one of her best days” before she strangled their three children.
Patrick has also mentioned that Lindsay never used the word “psychosis” to describe her symptoms until after she was arrested.

It is a severe form of postpartum depression that can cause a woman to experience delusions, hallucinations and other psychotic symptoms.
Postpartum psychosis typically develops within the first few weeks after giving birth, and it requires immediate medical attention.
Symptoms of postpartum psychosis can include confusion, disorientation, paranoia, agitation and rapid mood swings.
Women with postpartum psychosis may also experience delusions, such as believing that their baby is possessed or that they are being watched or followed.
Hallucinations, such as hearing voices or seeing things that aren’t there, can also occur.
Postpartum psychosis is a medical emergency and requires immediate treatment.
Women with postpartum psychosis may need to be hospitalized for their own safety and the safety of their baby.
Treatment may include medication, therapy, and support from mental health professionals.
It’s important to note that postpartum psychosis is rare, affecting only about 1 to 2 out of every 1,000 women who give birth.
However, it is a serious condition that requires prompt medical attention. Women who experience symptoms of postpartum psychosis should seek help right away.
