Sean Cardovillis was a renowned sports journalist and commentator in Kenya.

He started his career in media in 1997 as a sports editor at Capital FM.

He reported on sporting events, conducted interviews with athletes and coaches, and provided analysis and commentary.

Cardovillis was also a motorsport enthusiast and commentator.

Cardovillis tragically passed away on September 9, 2023, at his home in Nairobi:

According to C Nyakundi, Cardovillis’ body was discovered by a cleaner on the staircase leading to his fourth-floor apartment along Rhapta Road, where he lived alone.

The commentator had reportedly embarked on a bicycle ride earlier in the day and returned home around 7 PM on Friday.

However, many hours later, he was found dead in the stairwell, leaving unanswered questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Upon the cleaner’s discovery, immediate action was taken as an ambulance rushed to the scene,

accompanied by a police investigation team.

However, medical personnel on-site declared Cardovillis dead.

His body was subsequently transported to the mortuary, while investigators remain uncertain about the cause of his untimely demise.

Sean Cardovillis cause of death

At the time of publishing this article, Cardovillis’ exact cause of death had not been made public by his family.

It is only understood that he was found dead on the staircase leading to his apartment where he lived alone.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation to establish the exact cause of death.

Sean Cardovillis career

Cardovillis was a sports enthusiast and worked at Capital FM, where he presented sports updates from Mondays to Fridays.

He also hosted the Saturday Music and Sports show.

Cardovillis rejoined Capital FM in June 2023 after 18 years, expressing his excitement about being part of the station’s rebranding efforts in the sports domain.

He had a long and illustrious career in sports journalism, spanning over 20 years.

During his career, Cardovillis worked for Capital FM, Standard Group PLC and Nation Media Group as a radio and TV sports commentator.

He also contributed his expertise to Paradise FM and Tal FM in Seychelles from 2006 to 2012.

Throughout his career, Cardovillis covered a wide range of international sporting events, including the London and Rio Olympics, the Cricket World Cup, the Commonwealth Games and the Africa Cup of Nations.

He notably had the privilege of interviewing golf legend Tiger Woods twice in Dubai at the Dubai Desert Classic.

Cardovillis received numerous awards for his outstanding work, including the 2007 BBC Africa Radio Award for sports and the Sport Award at the 2007 CNN/Multichoice African Journalist of the Year Awards.
