Emma Coronel Aispuro is a former beauty queen and the wife of one of the world’s most notorious drug lords, Joaquín Guzmán aka El Chapo.
She was born on July 3, 1989, in California, United States, to a Mexican father and an American mother.
She grew up in Durango, Mexico, and later moved to California, where she attended high school.
At her formative age, Emma participated in the Coffee and Guava Festival beauty pageant in Canelas, Durango, where she was crowned queen.
She later became involved in the world of beauty pageants and modeling, appearing in several magazines and fashion shows.
Emma later got married to El Chapo who was then one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the most powerful drug trafficking organizations in Mexico.
Emma has been involved in several controversies related to her husband’s criminal activities.
In 2012, she was detained at the San Diego border crossing with more than $100,000 in cash, but was released without charges.
In 2019, Emma was present in court during her husband’s trial in New York, where he was convicted of drug trafficking, money laundering, and other charges.
She was also accused of helping her husband escape from a Mexican prison in 2015, but denied the allegations.
In February 2021, Emma was arrested at Dulles International Airport in Virginia, United States, on charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana.
She was released in September 2023.

Her twin daughters, Maria Joaquina and Emali Guadalupe, were born in 2011 in California, United States.
Emma has been a private person, and not much information is available about her children.

In February 2019, Emma launched a clothing line for children called El Chapo Guzmán: JGL, which is named after her husband’s initials.
