During Gamescom 2023, Bethesda Softworks revealed the opening minutes of Starfield gameplay.
The game is set in space and players take on the role of a space explorer.
The gameplay begins with the player character waking up from cryosleep and being greeted by a holographic assistant.
The assistant informs the player that they have been asleep for 25 years and that they are now in the year 2330.
The player then proceeds to explore their ship, which is called the Constellation, and interacts with various objects and NPCs.
The gameplay also shows the player piloting a spaceship and engaging in combat with other ships.
In addition to the gameplay reveal, Bethesda representatives discussed the size of the game. According to Pete Hines, the game’s size will be “bigger than anything we’ve ever done”.
This suggests that Starfield will be a massive game with a lot of content for players to explore.
Bethesda also gave a full presentation on Starfield during Gamescom ONL 2023.
The presentation included more information about the game’s setting and story, as well as additional gameplay footage.
Todd Howard, the game’s director, explained that Starfield is a single-player RPG with a focus on exploration and player choice.
He also emphasized that the game has been in development for over 25 years, although this does not necessarily mean that the game has been in active development for that entire time.
One Reddit user who saw the Starfield presentation at Gamescom reported that the footage shown was an overview of the first two hours of the game and that it looked “very nice”.
IGN also released a video featuring Todd Howard explaining more about the game and showing additional gameplay footage.
