Dion Stutts was a Memphis University School multi-sport star and Arkansas football commit.
Stutts was one of the top Memphis area defensive linemen returning for the upcoming football season after recording 30 tackles and 13 tackles for loss as a junior last fall.
He committed in March to play college football at Arkansas.
Stutts was also an accomplished wrestler at MUS.
According to multiple sources, he died on Tuesday night, June 13, 2023, MUS football coach and athletic director Bobby Alston confirmed to The Commercial Appeal.
He was 17. He had just finished his junior year at MUS.
“Our hearts are broken for the family. Dion was such a great young man. He had a smile that warmed your heart when you had a chance to be around him,” Alston said.
When contacted about Stutts’ accident, The Batesville, Mississippi police department referred a Commercial Appeal reporter to the Panola County Sheriff Department.
The Panola County Sheriff Department declined to comment and told a reporter to call back during normal business hours.
Dion Stutts cause of death
Dion Stutts died in an ATV accident near Batesville, Mississippi.
However, at the time of publishing this article, circumstances surrounding the accident that tragically claimed his life remain unclear.
Notably, the incident resulted in Stutts’ untimely demise, as he could not receive immediate medical attention.
The 17-year-old football player’s deåth was confirmed by Bobby Alston, the football coach and athletic director at MUS, who expressed his deep sorrow for Stutts’ family.
Alston confirmed the player’s unexpected death to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, showing insight into his significant impact on people around him.
