SafiriSalama is Kenya’s first End-of-Life services platform.

It is focused on using technology to bring innovation to Africa’s traditional death care industry and simplify the bereavement process.

The beta version rolled out in August 2022 is an ecosystem that offers solutions to among other issues the prohibitive cost of mainstream media obituaries.

It also addresses the absence of a local repository platform for memorials and the need for efficient, easy-to-navigate directory focused on Deathcare, connecting thousands of users and service providers to ease planning.

SafiriSalama products

1. The Redbook

This is a business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-customer (B2C) product and services online directory that connects verified service providers in the funeral industry with families.

The offering enables vendors showcase products, pricing, stock availability and be search-engine discoverable.

2. Death Notices

This product enables the creation of affordable and user controlled digital death announcements that can be shared across multiple social media platforms.

3. Memorials

This product provides subscription to a one-stop-shop including a user-friendly noticeboard for managing a loved one’s funeral process.

It also offers a subscription for preserving memories; galleries, links and narratives collected through obituaries and eulogies, and enabling discovery through search engines.

SafiriSalama packages

SafiriSalama offers three packages;

1. Death notice – Ksh 1,950
2. Memorials (Basic) – Ksh 2,950 per year.
3. Memorials (Premium) – Ksh 5,950
   • Ksh 3,150 per year from the 2nd year.

SafiriSalama founder

John Nyongesa is the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SafiriSalama.

He also serves as the Chief Product Officer (CPO).

He has 26 years of experience in various fields of communication, including broadcast journalism, advertising, TV production, PR, lobbying, brand management and corporate affairs.

Nyongesa holds BA, Literature, Theatre Arts and PG Diploma, Journalism from the University of Nairobi.

Steve Lelei and Edith Orwako are co-founders of SafiriSalama.

How to create a memorial on SafiriSalama

To create a memorial on SafiriSalama, follow the steps below;

1. Open SafiriSalama website.
2. Locate the Create a Memorial button and click on it.
3. Hit Select a Layout and choose a template.
4. Select a background music and hit Next.
5. Enter personal details of the person that the memorial is dedicated to.
   • First Name
   • Last Name
   • Middle Name
   • Nickname
   • Country
   • City/Town/Place of Birth
   • City/Town/Place of Death
   • Date of Birth (Date/Month/Year)
   • Date of Death (Date/Month/Year)
   • Gender
   • Choose Memorial web address
   • Details of the person managing the memorial.
6. Enter the Account Details.
7. Review Privacy Options and complete the process.

To create a memorial on SafiriSalama, follow the steps below;

1. Open SafiriSalama website.
2. Locate the Create a Death Notice button.
3. Once you open the page, upload the deceased person’s picture.
4. Enter the deceased person’s personal information.
