Safaricom PLC is a listed Kenyan mobile network operator headquartered at Safaricom House in Nairobi, Kenya.
It is the largest telecommunications provider in Kenya, and one of the most profitable companies in the East and Central Africa region.
The company offers mobile telephony, mobile money transfer, consumer electronics, ecommerce, cloud computing, data, music streaming, and fibre optic services.
It is most renowned as the home of MPESA, a mobile banking SMS-based service.
Safaricom controls approximately 64.5% percent of the Kenyan market as of 2020 with a subscriber base estimated at approximately 35.6 million.
In terms of voice market and SMS market share Safaricom controls 69.2% and 92.2% respectively.
Safaricom rolls out 5G networks
In October 27, 2022, rolled out 5G networks in five counties, enabling customers to access faster internet speeds.
The telco has unveiled the networks in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisii, Kakamega, and Kisumu.
Faster than 4G network, clients will be able to download, stream videos as well as play video at neck break speeds.

For such a shift, there’s the requirement of new hardware; this explains why Safaricom will be selling you a router at Ksh 25,000.
These routers access 5G networks and share it to your devices as WiFi.
At the same time, if you don’t want to pay the one-off Ksh 25,000 fee, there’s the option for a 36-month contract where the router will be provided for free.
However, you will need to be credit vetted for this.
You will also need to pay Ksh 5,000 for delivery, setup and installation of the router.
Safaricom Home Fibre
Safaricom Home Fibre was launched on 15th March 2015 and is currently the largest home internet provider in the country.
Safaricom Home Fibre has 4 packages; bronze (8 Mbps), silver (20 Mbps), Gold (40Mbps), and Gold (100Mbps).
Once you register for the service, you will be given a router that will enable you to have both Wireless and LAN internet, with no installation charges.

How to get connected to Safaricom Home Fibre
To get connected to the service, simply dial *400# and select the “Get Safaricom Home Fibre” and follow the simple steps.
You will then get a call back from Safaricom within 48 hours.
The Safaricom team will create an account for you and you will be advised to make payment to your account.
Your connection will be set up within 48 hours after payment.
Once you register, you will be given a router and access to credentials that will enable you to have both Wireless and LAN access, with no installation charges.
You only have to pay for the month you are subscribed to.
How to pay for Safaricom Home Fibre
Dial *400*2# or use the paybill option as seen below.
- Go to your Mpesa Menu
- Select Lipa na M-PESA
- Select Paybill
- Enter 150501 as the Business number
- Enter your Fibre account number
- Enter the amount you want to pay
- Enter your PIN number and press OK
- Confirm if all the details you have entered are correct and press OK
- You will receive a confirmation SMS from M-PESA for the transaction

Dial *400# and select the “Are you in my area” option. It will prompt you to enter information on your location.

How to terminate Safaricom Home Fibre
To cancel Safaricom Home Fibre, send an e-mail to safaricomhome@safaricom.co.ke with details of your request.
Once the service is cancelled, Safaricom will make arrangements to collect the WiFi router from your premises.
You can also use the same details to connect to your Wi-Fi compatible devices.
