Malabo, Equatorial Guinea – Preliminary elections results released on Monday shows that of the so far counted 67,179 votes, President Obiang leads with 67,012, leaving 184 votes to be shared between Equatorial Guinea’s opposition leader Buenaventura Monsuy and first time contestant Andrés Esono Ondo.
Equatorial Guinea which has had only two presidents since gaining independence in 1968 stands out in two things; oil production and the type of democracy that runs the country.
It not only has the longest serving president in the world, her vice president is Teodoro Nguema the President’s son.
The 80 year old president who has always won all elections with over 90% told the people during his last campaign on Friday that he is assured victory is for the ruling party.
He also added that he had decided to bring the elections earlier so as to save and counter the economic crisis going on.
Ondo who is contesting for the 1st time told Reuters through phone that the whole election process is a Fraud and they have evidence of malpractices in capital City Malabo.
He also mentioned intention to challenge the outcome in court Buenaventura Monsuy who has lost five elections against the Authoritarian is yet to comment on the whole election conduct.
The small country has known only one consistent middle name in leadership since independence.
Nguema, first it was the uncle, then the nephew and now what looks like a son grooming to take up the big shoes.
If Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo wins the 6th term, he joins the ranks of the old monarchs as one if the longest serving leaders in history and creates a little bit of serving distance between him and his Neighboring preisdent of Cameroon Paul Biya who has been in office for 40 years.
